Aloha,
During the first few months of this term, we’ve made a difference in education. INS classes
were well-attended in our summer-fall session. In October, we offered the recently revised Homeowners Insurance
Coverage continuing education course to a packed training facility of insurance professionals. We wrapped
up our fall session with a Confidence While Communicating course and will end the year with an Ethics CE in December.
Our Hawaii State Council meeting was held on November
8. Although our RVP, Lauri Oakden, was not able to attend, she provided a motivating message which I presented
to the membership. The highlight of the meeting was our CWC competition between two of our new members,
Mariah Williams and Scott Aldinger. While both contestants did very well, the judges declared Mariah Williams
the winner. We’re very happy to have her represent the Hawaii Council at the Region VIII Conference
in Las Vegas.
Our Safety Committee is currently
judging over 100 entries for our annual Safety Essay Contest. We asked high school students to capture
their thoughts on this year’s topic: ‘Text While Driving Kills’. The entries are so diverse
and creative, I can’t wait to find out who our winners will be. Awards will be presented at our December
13 membership meeting.
We’re in the
process of planning a networking event to attract new members including young professionals and will plan community service
projects for the new year. We’ll continue to make a difference.
Respectfully submitted,
Debra Chong, MBA, CIIP
Hawaii Council
